About Rose Lake
Rose Lake, also known as Fisherman’s Lake, is actually the Hocking Hills Reservoir. It is located in Hocking Hills State Park and is easily accessible from the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls; it’s just a one-mile walk away! While swimming is not allowed at this pristine lake, its calm waters provide one of the most stunning views in the area. Come enjoy the scenery and other activities nearby!
Things to Do at Rose Lake
Fishing
Rose Lake is one of the best places in the Hocking Hills to cast your line. It is stocked with trout each spring, so you’re very likely to get a great catch. There’s a reason why some locals fondly call it Fisherman’s Lake! All you have to do is make sure that you have a valid Ohio fishing license. These are easy to acquire, and short-term, non-resident licenses are available.
Hiking
Rose Lake is a gorgeous hike! You can get to the lake by crossing the Old Man’s Cave gorge and following the signs. If you hike from Old Man’s Cave to Cedar Falls, you go right past it! Rose Lake is right in the middle of the two, and you’ll pass by pristine groves of pine trees on your way. The other way to get here is to take a half-mile hike from the road.
Bird Watching
The Hocking Hills State Park, especially Rose Lake, is excellent for birding. If you are visiting during the spring or fall, you’ll get to see water fowl that are migrating through the area. Otherwise, you are sure to see the wildlife indigenous to the area around the lake.
