About the Whispering Cave in the Hocking Hills

If you love the popular caves in Hocking Hills State Park, like Ash Cave, add one of the park’s newest attractions to your list. Whispering Cave opened to the public in 2017 and has quickly become a favorite spot of many. The new trail is open year-round from dawn until dusk, so you can visit no matter when you stay at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls!

The cave itself is almost 300 feet wide and has a gorgeous, 150-foot waterfall pouring from its upper rim. There are guardrails along the edge of the cave for your safety, but there are some low rocks and steep areas.

Getting There

If you’re coming from the Visitor Center at Old Man’s Cave, turn left onto OH-664 and drive for about a mile. Turn left at the entrance of the Hocking Hills State Park Cabins, then park in the lodge parking lot. You’ll find the trailhead near the back of the parking lot! The trail is very well-marked, so you should have no trouble finding it.

You can follow Google Maps to the trailhead here.

Hiking to the Whispering Cave

To get to the Whispering Cave in the Hocking Hills, you’ll have to take the new Hemlock Bridge Trail. There is a labeled, shorter spur trail at a split that you can take straight to the Whispering Cave. The hike is 1.5 miles long and takes about a half hour to complete. On your way, you’ll come across stairs, a scenic overlook, and some cliffs. It even has the park’s first swinging bridge! Keep in mind that this is not an easy trail; there are some rugged parts and stairs that make it a moderate hike.

If you’d like to keep hiking, the Hemlock Bridge Trail passes the Whispering Cave and connects with the trail to Old Man’s Cave and Cedar Falls.
