Our Guide to Lake Hope State Park

When you live here in the Hocking Hills, you are fortunate to be in an area that is simply stunning. We at Inn at Cedar Falls consider ourselves so fortunate to have made this area our home. When guests come to the Hocking Hills area, we love helping them find interesting things to do. Always at the top of our list is exploring. There are so many trails and cliffs and waterfalls to discover that choosing where to start could be a daunting task. Let us take the guess work off of your plate and why don’t you start with an afternoon at Lake Hope State Park. Come see why when you check out Lake Hope State Park not only will you have a great time seeing the beauty of our area but also learning about it as well.

The first thing to do when you get to Lake Hope State Park is to enjoy one of their many trails. They have hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails which are all a lot of fun. The hiking trails are anywhere from 1/4 mile to 3.2 miles and are all moderate in difficulty. If you choose to go mountain biking do know that the trails are great for intermediate to advanced cyclists and can be quite challenging for those who are not used to steep hills and ravines. Their biking trails range in length of 1/2 mile to 7.2 miles and are a wonderful way to see Lake Hope State Park.

After you have had a chance to work up a sweat on the trails, you should cool off at their swimming beach. This is a perfect place to relax, soak up some sun, and enjoy the refreshing water. They have a beach house complete with sun deck, restrooms, and a small shop to purchase refreshments.

If you love being on the water, then there are two great ways to enjoy the water at Lake Hope State Park. The first is to go boating. You can either rent a canoe or kayak and explore the 120 acres of the lake. They do allow boats, but only ones with electric motors. While you are out on the water, take advantage of some fishing. Be sure you have your Ohio fishing license and enjoy the waters. Living below the surface you will find bluegill, catfish, crappie and largemouth bass.

Our last suggestion when it comes to enjoying a day at the Lake Hope State Park is to attend one of their wonderful events. They have a few every season and one that is coming up this July should be a great time and is the Annual Hummingbird Banding. It starts at 9 am and will run until 1 pm. Join hummingbird enthusiast Allen Chartier to learn all about hummingbirds as well as the research behind them.
