Why You Need to Visit the Ohio Glass Museum

If you’re a fan of decorative arts, a trip to the spectacular Ohio Glass Museum in Lancaster, Ohio, should be on your bucket list! Lancaster served as a home base for numerous glass companies in the past and is now known as the “pressed glass capital of the world”, attracting thousands of visitors each year. At the museum, guests can enjoy exhibits, events, tours, educational programs, and more – and it’s all just a 30-minute drive from the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls! Here are some of the things you’ll see at the Ohio Glass Museum.

Spend an Afternoon at the Ohio Glass Museum

Take a Tour

At the Ohio Glass Museum, guests can take guided tours to learn about the history of early and modern glass making processes, or watch the film “Born of Fire” which tells the story of glass produced in Lancaster and Fairfield County. Group tours can also be arranged during regular museum hours or by appointment.

Explore the Glassblowing Studio

The museum’s Glass Studio was established in 2010 and offers fun and interesting programs that help educate the public about the art of glass making. Guests can enjoy group demonstrations during regular museum hours, or attend a class for a more hands-on look at making special works of art.

Visit the Gift Shop

Opened in 2005, the museum gift shop offers a wide variety of gorgeous glass creations made by the museum’s own glass blowers and other local artists. They also offer locally manufactured glassware items for the home with various colors, shapes, and sizes available on request, so you can bring back a piece of the museum with you! The gift shop is open during regular museum hours.

Don’t Miss the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio

A few steps down the road from the Ohio Glass Museum is the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, a fascinating museum that’s just waiting to be explored. The Center offers tours of the historic Reese-Peters House, art classes for all ages, public programs, and three art exhibitions annually. Admission is free, and the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday from 1 AM to 4 PM.
