4 of the Best Hocking Hills Dog-Friendly Trails
Hocking Hills State Park is extremely dog-friendly. Four-legged hikers are welcome to explore all areas of Hocking Hills State Park alongside their human companion except for Conkle’s Hollow Nature Preserve and Rockbridge Nature Preserve, which includes the Natural Rock Bridge. Please remember that dogs are to be kept on-leash in the park at all times. Don’t forget an extra water bottle and bowl, either, because if you’re thirsty, they are, too! 1. Ash Cave
Ash Cave is one of the most iconic sites at Hocking Hills State Park — and for good reason! It’s the largest recess cave in the entire state of Ohio! This massive rock formation measures 700 feet long and 100 feet deep. In the spring, it even features a waterfall as the snow melts. Gaze in awe at this natural masterpiece when you hike to Ash Cave with your pup! This dog-friendly trail is paved, so it’s easy for humans and canines of all skill levels. This easy trail is about an hour round-trip.
2. Cedar Falls
The Buckeye Trail spans 1,300 miles through Ohio and the heart of our area. Many of our favorite attractions can be found along it like Cedar Falls! Start your journey on one of our favorite Hocking Hills dog-friendly trails that winds through towering hemlocks and ancient rock walls. On your way to the cascades, follow the melodious sound of running water emanating from the stream beside you. Once you reach your destination, you’ll be captivated by the 50-foot waterfall!
3. Cantwell Cliffs
Cantwell Cliffs is one of the most picturesque areas in the Hocking Hills. Start your adventure, leash in hand, through the Hocking Hills State Park on your way to Cantwell Cliffs. You’ll be surrounded by greenery, lofty trees, and even spurts of wildflowers. Once you arrive at the cliffs, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the erosion caused by the Buck Run River. Explore the narrow rock walkways, a rock shelter, and fascinating reddish-brown stone. Bring a camera to document the beauty!
4. Old Man’s Cave
Old Man’s Cave is another dog-friendly area of the Hocking Hills. This destination within Hocking Hills State Park features beautiful rock formations carved by the natural ware of Salt Creek and melting glaciers. Old Man’s Cave has five distinct areas, each marked by its own natural beauty. These include Upper Falls, Upper Gorge, Middle Falls, Lower Falls, and Lower Gorge. You can access this trail that leads to Old Man’s Cave directly from the Welcome Center. This trail has helpful man-made bridges and steps along the way, so it’s suitable for hikers and dogs of all skill levels.
