About Lake Hope State Park

Located within Zaleski State Forest, Lake Hope State Park is a natural paradise in the valley of Big Sandy Run. The 2,983-acre park is a heavily forested region with an abundance of steep gorges, narrow ridges, and remnants of the mining industries. Its breathtaking scenery makes it a popular destination for nature lovers, photographers, and hikers. Foodies will be able to indulge in delicious food made from scratch at the Lake Hope Lodge restaurant. With so many things to see and do, visiting the park a must for any Ohio vacation!

6 of the Most Fun Things to Do at Lake Hope State Park

  1. Boating

The 120-acre lake provides plenty of opportunities to have fun in the sun. Motor boats are allowed access into Lake Hope by the launch ramp. Canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, rowboats, and paddleboards may all be rented at the park.

  1. Swimming

A 600-foot swimming beach is located near the Lake Hope dam. In addition to a warm, sandy shoreline, you will find a shower house with a deck, restrooms, and concessions.

  1.  Lake Hope Fishing

The waters of Lake Hope are teeming with a variety of freshwater fish including bluegill, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. Cast your line and reel in your next big catch! Be sure you are familiar with the Lake Hope fishing regulations and possess an Ohio fishing license.

  1. Picnicking

There is nothing quite like enjoying a delicious meal surrounded by the beauty of nature. There are 9 picnic areas scattered throughout the park, many of which provide grills and scenic areas. For larger groups, the shelter house may be rented. Don’t forget to order a brown bag lunch from the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls to take with you!

Lake Hope State Park is home to 7 hiking trails, including a 29-mile backpack trail! The trails are considered to be at a moderate level and are perfect for those eager to explore the historic land.

  • Greenbriar Trail  (½ mile)
