The Skyview Drive-In in Lancaster is One of the Best Attractions

Built in 1948, the Skyview Drive-In in Lancaster, Ohio, is one of less than 400 drive-ins left in the United States. The theater is owned and operated by Walt Effinger, an employee for over 30 years who continues to maintain the facility and meet the high standards of customers from far and wide. Located on Main Street on the edge of town, the theater’s screen stands high above the neighboring cornfields and offers showings of recently released films on weekends at 8:45 PM. Just a 40-minute drive from the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, you can enjoy your favorite movies under the stars in the comfort of your own car! Here are some things you’ll see at the Skyview Drive-In.

Visit the Skyview Drive-In in Lancaster

Admission

Featuring a concession stand, playground, and a DJ playing oldies in the summer, a trip to the SkyView Drive-In will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. With the high prices of movies these days, Skyview is an incredible bargain where visitors 12 and older can purchase tickets for $8 each, age 4-11 are $4 each, and kids ages 3 and younger are free.

The Skyview Theater is also the first drive-in in Ohio to offer a digital projector with high-quality picture and sound. Guests can enjoy watching on the theater’s 80-foot screen paired with state-of-the-art FM stereo, or use the vintage car speakers for an authentic 1950’s feel.

Concessions

The Skyview Drive-In also offers a wide variety of snacks and concessions for guests to enjoy during the movie screening. Visitors can choose from classic drive-in fare including hot dogs, burgers, pizza, fries, and popcorn, as well as special treats like cotton candy, ice cream, and brownies. The concession stand is operated by Walt’s wife, Cathie, who provides excellent and friendly service to all of the theater’s patrons.

The Hocking Theatre Drive-In

For another blast from the past, be sure to take a cruise through the Hocking Theater Drive-In, located just outside of Logan. Like many of America’s old drive-ins, this theater serves as a reminder of a bygone era. What was once the ticket booth is now a small building covered in chipped paint, but the tracks where people used to pull up and pay are still visible from constant use. The theater’s old marquee and screen are also still standing, providing a true feeling of nostalgia.
