Spend a Day at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio

This center is housed in the Reese-Peters House of Lancaster and  acts as a museum that displays decorative arts from and relating to the state of Ohio. Exhibitions at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio

The current exhibitions at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio (or DACO) include “Persistence of Nature” which features the works of James Mason and Karen Rumora. James Mason’s sculptures and Karen Rumora’s oils and encaustics. The exhibit will run through August 23rd, 2015. James Mason is a postmodern sculptor who honors the creativity inherent in art to give viewers a glimpse into his passion as a sculptor. Karen Rumora uses saturated color to bring her landscapes to life. Both artists blur traditional and contemporary boundaries. There will be a Gallery Walk & Talk with both artists, a Painting Nature outdoor painting class, and a Venice Biennale Presentation in conjunction with the exhibit.

Beginning on September 12th and running until December 31st, 2015 will be the exhibition “Early Visions of Ohio 1765-1865” curated by Christopher Busta-Peck.

Events and Education at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio

Along with exhibitions, the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio hosts special events and classes. Events include a Teen Artist Series, Painting Studios – Landscapes, Introduction to Acrylic Painting, Workshop Wednesdays, Watercolor Series, Master Classes for Minors, a 15th Anniversary Fundraiser, private classes, DACO Studio Open House, Watercolor Workshop by Christopher Leeper and more.

There are also educational opportunities for all ages at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio. The Wendel Center for Art Education is also known as “DACO Studio” houses a large professional studio on its ground floor where classes take place. The upstairs is what is known as the Art Garage, which is a family center where preschoolers can work and play with their parents and grandparents.
