5 Reasons to Go to the Lancaster Festival in July

Here at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, we know there are countless reasons to visit the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. The beautiful scenery and the wealth of diverting activities to take part in are among the top reasons to come to the area. Another reason you should consider coming to our neck of the woods is the variety of exciting and entertaining events that happen throughout the year. One event that is definitely worth attending is the Lancaster Festival. Held in Lancaster OH, which is about 40 minutes away, this annual festival takes place at the end of July each summer and celebrates music and art in a unique atmosphere. There are many reasons to go to the Lancaster Festival, but we’ve come up with five big reasons to attend

5 Reasons to Go to the Lancaster Festival

1.The History

The beginnings of the Lancaster Festival can be traced back to August 5, 1984, when the Columbus Symphony Orchestra presented a Picnic and Pops concert at Ohio University – Lancaster, the first concert held at the university’s outdoor auditorium. The next year the Lancaster Festival was inaugurated and had an eight-day run. The festival today is ten days long, a practice started in 1996 and 1997 and includes concerts as well as artistic displays. The town comes alive with artistic and creative endeavors for an atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else.

2. The Worthwhile Mission

Not only is attending the Lancaster Festival a good time, but it also supports a good cause. The mission statement of the festival reads “We believe that the arts express the essence of what it means to be fully human. The Lancaster Festival celebrates the artistic creativity of all cultures, serving as the foundation of year-round community efforts to nurture participation in the arts.” The Festival aims to promote artistic outreach and growth in the local area, educate the community, and maximize the visibility of artists and their work. When you attend the Lancaster Festival, you will see this mission at work.

3. The Music

One of the highlights of the Lancaster Festival is the lineup of excellent musical performances that take place at OU-L’s outdoor auditorium. This year’s acts include Mo Pitney, Thompson Square, Blues Traveler, Arnett Howard, Marshal Crenshaw, Agent 99, The Police Experience and many more. Click here for the full schedule.

4. The Artwork

The Lancaster Festival is the perfect place to see live performances for amazing musical acts, but it’s also a great place to see some high-quality artwork. The Lancaster Festival ArtWalk features regional artists in a juried show. Artwork using different media are showcased.

5. The Atmosphere

The atmosphere in Lancaster during the Lancaster Festival is truly unique to this event. The outdoor auditorium creates the perfect setting for fabulous musical performances and the town practically transforms to showcase local artists and artisans. It’s truly something you should experience for yourself.
