Top 5 Wayne National Forest ATV Trails

Wayne National Forest is a 20-minute drive from our Inn and offers four different trail systems: Monday Creek, Hanging Rock, Pine Creek, and Superior. Passes are $20 for three days or $35 for the season, which runs from mid-April through mid-December. All you have to do is grab a permit, rent an ATV and get out there!

1. Dorr Run Loop

Dorr Run Loop is one of the most popular trail systems in Wayne National Forest! This trail system comprises five ATV trails just outside of Nelsonville, Ohio. With so many trail options available, you’re sure to find a thrill at Dorr Run! Riders can access the network of trails by following signs off of Highway 33 just northwest of Nelsonville, Ohio.

2. Monday Creek

Monday Creek is an amazing 75-mile trail system that’s perfect for ATV riding. It’s located just north of Nelsonville and is a great destination for an all-day adventure with friends. You can enter the trails at two designated loading areas in New Straitsville and White Oak. Just remember to exercise caution while riding here, because mountain bikers, campers, and hikers also use these trails. With a variety of routes ranging from easy to difficult, Monday Creek has something for riders of all skill levels!

3. Hanging Rock

The Hanging Rock trail system boasts 26 miles of dirt routes to get your adrenaline pumping. Enter this trail from the Hanging Rock Trailhead on Highway 650 off of Highway 52. The Hanging Rock system lies within an area strip-mined in the 1960s and 1970s and is the most challenging of all the Wayne National Forest ATV trails. Other activities in Hanging Rock include mountain biking, camping, and fishing.

4. Pine Creek

Put some tracks on the 20-mile Pine Creek trail system! In addition to awesome ATV riding, this section is great for hiking or mountain biking. You can ride onto the Pine Creek trail system at Telegraph, Lyra, or Wolcott Trailheads. Please note that the 3.2-mile portion of the trail that lies between the Telegraph Trailhead and the Bushy Fork Road intersection is now private property and not open to the public. Wayne National Forest is working on rerouting that section of the trail, so be mindful of where you enter!

5. Superior

The Superior trail system offers 16.5 miles of exciting trails that are perfect for ATV riding, motorcycling, mountain biking, and more! Due to the narrow nature of this trail, only vehicles 50 inches wide or less are allowed to ride. The Superior trail system can be accessed off of State Route 52. Once on the trail, riders can connect to the Pine Creek trail system to continue the adventure!
